Sports and Remedial Massage

"As a driver's career progresses he will usually encounter cars with more power and more performance, until he is at the stage where fitness and strength levels will play a vital role in governing his ability to perform, and to get the most out of each situation he is in, be it a gruelling two day test, or maybe even more importantly a race. Being fit and strong enables you to concentrate solely on the job in hand.

Working with Karl means you can alleviate any anxieties about your fitness as he will ensure you are in a position physically where you all you'll need to do is concentrate on driving the car.

Loosen up and get aligned

Sports massage is an essential tool in ensuring your body is fully conditioned, injury free and prepared for the weekends racing. Massage can be used to help stimulate muscle recovery both during and post event and is also be used to identify sites of possible injury and prevent the onset of muscle strains, spasm and fatigue. While regular massage encourages good postural condition, on event massage can help stimulate and prepare you for the session ahead as well as recovery between sessions.

The benefits of sports massage are invaluable to all athletes, and even more so in motorsport due to the specific postural demands and forces that act upon he body throughout a weekend.

Regular remedial treatment can benefit you in the following key areas;

General circulation – massage will stimulate increased blood flow to the area being treated, this helps provide an increased supply of healing nutrients to the tissues and cells and therefore helps improve the recovery and condition of the tissue.

Scar tissue and adhesions – regular massage will identify area’s of concern and will help alleviate and break down any small amounts of scar tissue that form following activity. Breaking down the scar tissue at the stage prevents greater injury and chronic conditions developing

Fibre alignment – both post activity and during the recovery or healing process, muscles fibres can bundle together and adhere them into a knot. This knot can then hamper tissue activity preventing smooth movement and interaction between fibres. Post event massage and remedial treatments prevents the onset of adhesions and ensure efficient and functional fibre alignment.

Tissue flexibility – massage can stretch, mobilise and stimulate areas of tissue that cannot be effectively reached through exercise or stretching. These muscles can directly hamper performance, but this risk is greatly reduced with regular treatment.

Lymphatic flow and drainage – the lymphatic system helps rid the tissues of waste products and bi-products from exercise. They work efficiently but regular activity increases the demands on the system. Massage can help with the flow of drainage from localised tissues and speeds up the process of expelling the after effects of intense activity., once again speeding up the recovery process.

Stimulation of the nervous system – Massage benefits the nervous system in 2 ways, firstly it can be used to excite and stimulate the nerve flow and trigger quicker and more efficient muscle activity, which can yield geater tissue performance and results. Secondly using a different type of massage, tissues can be stimulated on a sensory level which will relax and calm tissues, helping reduce any after effects of training or performance and on many occasions reduce the level of pain felt from acute injury or fatigue. These two differing styles of massage are best used in Pre and Post activity treatments.
